Preserving the Genetic Basis of Tomorrow’s Food

The Australian organization Seed Savers has just released Our Seeds, a film that celebrates traditional food plants and the people that grow them. Seed Savers directors Michel and Jude Fanton shot over 160 hours of footage in 11 countries, producing a film focused on the people who stand at the source of humanity’s diverse food heritage.

The film addresses many of the issues that USC Canada’s deals with in our own work with farmers throughout Africa, Asia, and latin America. It’s a David and Goliath story, wherein resilience and persuasive logic triumph over the seemingly invincible forces that control much of our food.

You can view a short trailer for the film on YouTube, and order your own copy of the film through the Seed Savers website.

Glad to hear you’ve shared this video with your family! Seed diversity is the world’s insurance policy against future agricultural disaster. The more people that understand how important it is and who know about organizations like Seed Savers and USC Canada, the better able we’ll be to help protect and preserve that diversity.
