More than a dozen dedicated Ottawa runners are getting ready to go the distance for USC! They’re busily grinding out those gruelling training miles to get in shape for Race Weekend this coming May 23 and 24. Won’t you offer them some encouragement by making a donation to USC Canada today?
This will be the 10th year that runners have gone the distance for USC, with close to $26,000 raised so far for USC’s Seeds of Survival program. Seeds of Survival is all about helping farmers stay on the land, to grow more food for their families, to preserve the environment, and to enhance biodiversity.
The 14-member Going the Distance group is made up of USC supporters, staff members, family and friends. Each member will take on a different challenge, according to his or her own level of ability and experience. We have runners participating in each race, from the 2 km kids’ run to the full distance 42 km marathon.
USC’s work is a bit like long-distance running. It requires patience, commitment, lots of training, plus the ability to shrug off the inevitable set-backs along the way. There are also no rapid paths to success. If training runs are not spread out over many weeks and months, failure on the day of the run is almost guaranteed, with injuries a likely result. Likewise, attempting to help farmers with “quick-fix” solutions can all too often lead to long-term damage to their communities, their farming systems and their environment.
If you’d like to make a contribution to the Going the Distance project, please donate online, or send a cheque to:

Many thanks for your generosity, and please feel free let others know about this. We’re hoping this project will have legs!
