USC Canada was founded in 1945 as the Unitarian Service Committee by Dr. Lotta Hitschmanova (1909-1990). This November marks the 100th anniversary of her birth. On November 12th, we’re organizing our very own Lotta celebration at Arts Court Theatre (2 Daly Ave).
Join us at 5:00 pm for a cash bar reception, and chat with those who knew and loved Lotta. See a short documentary on her life – Soldier of Peace – and check out specially commissioned portraits of Dr. Lotta, created by Ottawa-area artist Sherry Tompalski. Video producer Graham Thomson will be on-hand to interview people about what Lotta meant to them. At 6:30 pm, CBC broadcaster Bob Carty will host a short ceremony about Lotta’s amazing life story. Then we’ll bring the USC story up to date with a screening of Return to Nepal, featuring USC spokesperson, Bruce Cockburn.
RSVP required: to reserve a place or for more info, contact David Rain by email or telephone (613-234-6827 x231).
