Learn more about Lotta
“More than Lester Pearson even, it was Lotta Hitschmanova who shaped my values as a Canadian, and the type of Canada I believe in. She gave us our identity.”

Dr. Lotta Hitschmanova (1909-1990) founded USC Canada as the Unitarian Service Committee in 1945. From the 1940s to 1970s, she became one of Canada’s greatest humanitarians, as she mobilized a whole generation of Canadians to reach out and help others in need.
