What follows is a listing of those organizations that may offer overseas volunteer opportunities. The list is incomplete, but it does offer a starting point for those interested in volunteering overseas.

  • AIESEC provides 3 different types of exchange experiences. For post secondary students interested in business management positions, technical positions or development sector work they offer traineeships that last from 8 weeks to 18 months.
  • Canada World Youth is a national organization that provides young people from Canada and around the world with the opportunity to live and volunteer in different communities, to learn about local and international development, and to gain important job skills for the future.
  • CANADEM is a non-profit agency dedicated to advancing international peace and security through the recruitment, screening, promotion and rapid mobilization of Canadian expertise. Their website includes overseas volunteer postings, and an online application for their roster of civilian experts.
  • Canadian Crossroads International seeks to build a constituency of global citizens committed to voluntarism and international development by building partnerships with countries from the South and organizing volunteer cooperative placements and internships.
  • Canadian Executive Service Organization. Typical CESO volunteers have more than 35 years of practical experience. They serve as advisers and mentors to enterprises and agencies in Canadian First Nations communities and developing countries around the world.
  • Canadian Universities. Many Canadian Universities run international centres where people can find resources about working or volunteering overseas. Check with your local university campus.
  • CIDA Youth Action Internships is an employment program for young Canadian professionals that offers post-secondary graduates international development work experience. It aims to make young people aware of globalization and contribute to international cooperation.
  • CUSO-VSO is one of North America’s largest international development organizations that works through volunteers.
  • Engineers without Borders offers overseas volunteer placements to professional engineers, young professionals, and university students.
  • Mennonite Central Committee is a relief, service, and peace agency that places volunteers in a variety of short and long term positions, both in North America and overseas.
  • Projects Abroad, catering specifically to Canadians, offers a diverse range of international service projects and the opportunity to become part of their volunteer communities or engage in internships abroad.
  • Students Without Borders (SWB) is a WUSC program that enables Canadian university and college students to participate in exciting, volunteer learning opportunities in South America, Africa, and Asia. SWB is currently accepting applications in a variety of disciplines.
  • Teachers Unions. Sometimes teachers unions have exchanges to developing countries during the summer for Canadian teachers. Check in with your local union.
  • TravelWorks is a German organization that offers volunteering placements and paid work opportunities around the world. The organization offers services to both English and French-speaking markets, and you don’t need to be based in Germany to offer your volunteer services.
  • World University Service of Canada -  a network of individuals and post-secondary institutions that fosters human development and global understanding – is a major volunteer-sending organization.
  • Volunteer Abroad is a website that offers a wide array of links to different organizations that offer overseas volunteer opportunities. This is a US-based site.
