Buying local food does an amazing thing: it supports the production of delicious and nutritious food right here at home. It's an essential first step in making healthy food more accessible to all.
Communities in the Global South care about local food too. But there is one crucial difference: in many cases, there is no other option. So when local family farmers aren't able to harvest enough food - because of poverty, bad weather or unsupportive policies - families go hungry.
By making a donation to USC Canada, you can provide life-changing support to family farmers in 10 Global South countries around the world.
We support community seed banks. We help farmers learn new ecological agriculture methods from each other. We equip them to launch their own micro-enterprises, paying special attention to women and young farmers. And we assist farmer groups so they can breed seeds themselves, in their their own fields, to keep up with climate change.
Our work delivers results: when family farmers have the right seeds for their land and the right tools to support themselves, local harvests grow. Entire communities find hope for a brighter future.
Help us do more. Please make your donation - however big or small - online through our Canada Helps Giving Tuesday page.
