Run for Biodiversity – Calgary!

Sunday May 27, 2012

Are you a Runner or Walker?
We’re looking for runners and walkers to Run for Biodiversity in  the Scotiabank Calgary Marathon, half marathon, 10 km, 5km or kids marathon.

If you’d like to support USC’s work with seed-saving farmers in this way, please send an email to David Rain at R4B@usc-canada.org to receive registration information.

  • All R4B-Calgary runners and walkers who commit to raising $100 will receive a specially-designed Run for Biodiversity T-shirt in appreciation for their fundraising efforts.
  • As a special thank you, the first 10 R4B-Calgary participants will be registered for free!

Where will Donations go?
All donations will go to support USC’s work in Nepal. Our R4B-Calgary goal is to raise $5,000 to support the community-based agricultural, biodiversity and environmental initiatives of our local partner, the Self-Help Initiatives Program (SHIP).

SHIP is working in extremely challenging conditions, helping farming families to survive and thrive in the remote Himalayan district of Humla, a 10-day’s walk to the nearest road!

Why Run for Biodiversity?
On May 22, USC Canada joins millions of people around the world in celebrating International Biodiversity Day. Biodiversity is all about food and farmers. It’s the earth’s life-support system, and nature’s brilliant insurance policy against disaster. If something fails, there’s a back-up plan: Biodiversity! Much is at stake for us all, and in a real sense, USC is helping farmers plant the Seeds of our very Survival

Thanks for Making a Difference!
Thanks to your generous support, USC Canada is able to help Nepalese farmers grow more food for their families, and to bring about lasting change in South Asia.

Please feel free let others know about this too. We’re hoping this year’s Run will have “legs!”
