Public Engagement

Educating Canadians about global issues has always been an important part of our work – ever since Dr. Lotta Hitschmanova would tour Canada presenting slides of our work.

Today, USC’s public engagement role takes many forms:

  • Creating links with like-minded groups
  • Developing resources for educators
  • Organizing workshops and presentations by USC staff
  • Working in NGO networks to mobilize Canadians on specific issues

Linking Issues North and South
Policies in areas such as agriculture, trade, and intellectual property rights have a scope and impact that is global. They affect people in Canada as much as our neighbours in the South. Thankfully, there are compelling and powerful ways that Canadians can share experience and mobilize for change.

Part of our role is to facilitate such action by bringing together people on specific issues; particularly in the areas of food security and sustainable agriculture, biodiversity, and the growing movement for organic agriculture.

We bring agriculture practitioners from our overseas programs to events organized by Canadian organic growers, and participate in networks on global and local food security. We also work closely with networks of NGOs, Unitarians, young people, farmers’ associations, and the environmental community to engage and mobilize Canadians on issues of common concern.

In a Neighbourhood Near You
USC Canada staff members often travel around the country, and we’re always happy to offer workshops or presentations to your group when we’re in town. Requests for presentations about USC Canada’s work can be accommodated as travel schedules permit.

You can check out our calendar to see where we’ll be over the next few months. You can also explore the possibility of arranging a presentation for your group. Just contact Kate Green by email or by phone at 1-800-565-6872 ext 228.
