Philosophy
Our work stems from the universal values of equality, justice, peace and dignity for all human beings. We believe the lives and destinies of people are connected across borders and, as global citizens, we can act together to build a just world. Through community-based development programs, as well as national and international networks of partners, we
- Support peoples’ efforts to secure prosperous futures
- Promote social justice
- Encourage sustainable ‘genuine’ development.
Genuine development refers to the free participation of citizens in creating communities and society. People and communities are always developing - acting together, learning together, making political and economic choices - and creating a better world for themselves. With genuine development, people are the agents of their own change.
We See Poverty as a Symptom of Injustice
Poverty and under-development are conditions of deeper structural inequalities and lack of access, be it at the household, community, national, or international level. Poverty exists north and south, and so do the solutions.
We see People at the Centre of Development
The people we work with are active participants in their own development. They have the knowledge, abilities, and solutions to transcend poverty. Our role is to support their efforts. They gain, lose, and regain ground every day, and it’s a long-term, continuous process that involves mutual support and determination.
